Humans derive emotional insight from their life experiences, a process integral to therapeutic approaches such as psychotherapy. However, supporting the recollection and narration of these experiences, especially from dreams, has been largely unattended in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Enter Metamorpheus, an affective interface that leverages AI to help users engage in creative visual storytelling based on their dreams.
Metamorpheus crafts narratives from the emotional arcs of dreams, providing metaphor suggestions and AI-generated visual metaphors and text. It fosters mindful self-reflection, allowing users to revisit and make sense of their dreams in new, profound ways.
I believe Metamorpheus represents a significant step in integrating AI with therapeutic practices. It could serve not only as a self-help tool but also as an aid for therapists to understand clients’ subconscious experiences more richly. However, research into its long-term impact and effectiveness in actual psychotherapy settings would greatly enhance its applicability.
